Tris wonders how he knows this. When they put the new ranks up after a week or so Tris finds herself to be ranked first. Her friends just stare quietly then Peter accuses her of acting weak so she can defeat them all in the end. While Tris is sleeping that night she gets up throughout the night and goes to get a drink of water when she does she overhears Eric speaking to someone about locating and getting rid of all the divergent initiates. When she is about to return to her room she feels hands grab hold of her. She knows its three guys and can tell that one is Drew and one is Peter but she wonders who her third captor is. 11-12-13 Then she finds herself being hung over the rails where no one survives the fall into the rushing waters. Tris is afraid that they are going to throw her over. She realizes who the third person is, Al. She starts to think why he would do it especially since they were friends. The she bites his hand in an attempt to get away but she bangs her head on the rails and Peter punches her. When she is about to pa** out she hears someone rush in and start to fight Drew, Peter ran away. Al must have gotten away she thinks. Just when her eyes are about to close Four picks her up and carries her to his room. When she wakes up she feels pain everywhere. She asks about what happened and he said he beat Drew up so badly he had to take him to the hospital. He tells her that even though she will want to try and act strong an brave she must seem weak, and that she should trust her friends only. Tris says sadly" I thought i was.", remembering that Al had been one of them. When its lunchtime Four leaves before Tris so she can take her time and make her appear weaker. 11-13-13 When Will and Christina spot Tris they are shocked. They ask what happened and she tell them about Peter, Drew, and Al trying to k** her. So when Al went to sit next to them Will and Christina sat on both sides of Tris and protected her. When they got back to the dormitory Al wanted Tris' forgiveness but she said she would never forgive him and that he was a coward. Then she, Will, and Christina leave the room and go hang out for a while. They return to go to sleep. The next morning Tris is awakened by Christina the only words she says are "It's Al." They make their way to where the rushing waters are and see that two dauntless are pulling out a lifeless heap from over the rails. Tris soon realizes who it is.It was Al, he committed suicide. 11-14-13 Eric walks up in front of the crowd to give speech. he starts by saying how the dauntless are not very good with speeches and then goes and says how "brave" Al was. Eric kept on claiming how Al had been very brave and that he would be remembered as brave. This angered Tris because if Eric considered suicide an act of bravery then she believes he is encouraging for the rest to jump over the rails. She believes that suicide was an act of cowardice and not bravery. So she decides to not join in the celebration and instead heads back to the dormitory. 11-15-13 The next day when she was talking with Will and Christina she spots Four walking somewhere and decides to investigate while Will and Christina head to the dormitory. She follows him into an empty room with graffiti on the wall. He tells her that he is about to let her go through his fear landscape. He injects her with a serum and then allows her to inject him with the same one. She soon wakes up at the top of a building. And realizes that Four is afraid of heights. She helps him with his fear so they can move on to the next one. Later she finds he is also afraid of small places and of having to k** a woman.
