To Secretary Seward. Executive Mansion, Washington, D. C., November 23, 1863. MY DEAR SIR:—Two despatches since I saw you; one not quite so late on firing as we had before, but giving the points that Burnside thinks he can hold the place, that he is not closely invested, and that he forages across the river. The other brings the firing up to 11 A.M. yesterday, being twenty-three hours later than we had before. Yours truly, A. LINCOLN.
